HAD ENOUGH ANTI-RELIGION PSYCHOLOGY

 AND ANTI-PSYCHOLOGY RELIGION?

SO HAVE WE.

The church, in general, tends to be anti-psycholgy.  Psychology, in general, tends to be anti-"religion," so to speak.  And, the two often don't care to speak to each other (or listen to each other) much.  The church often perceives psychology as somehow evil and/or insensitive; and psychology has somehow often perceived those having anything to do with "religion" as out of touch with reality (I'll admit, I used to be one having that opinion.)  With the hurts of the world affecting the church as much as anyone else, something needs to be done.  Attitudes need to change.  And healing needs to begin.  To be blunt and to the point, if progress is to be made, there's more than a little growing up that needs to be done.  On both sides.

Who has the courage to be honest here?

One area where families have been hard-hit is with divorce.  Divorce and the varied aftermaths thereof have left their mark on the church just as they have on anyone else.  We cannot shy away from healing practices just because these two "worlds" have been so separated in the past.

The fact is, the circumstances of our lives, and our subsequent actions influence our families, our communities, and especially our most precious resource of all:  our children.  Some of this influence is positive.  Unfortunately, a great deal can be negative.  The challenges children and adults face in an ever changing world can seem daunting.  People need to be encouraged that turning to the field of psychology and counseling to sort through these issues can bring healthier living.

We see no reason for psychology/counseling and the organized churches to be at such odds with one another.  And if you think about it, this actually seems to go against what each professes and proclaims.

A long time ago, in a land not so far away, the field of psychology/counseling actually worked in harmony with Biblical principles.  However, decades ago, with the introduction of what some might now even consider to be radical theories, combined with the advent of greater media efficacy, this began to take a dramatic turn.  Recently, and more than ever before, however, we're finding the academic field of psychology is being inundated with critical new thinking.  Former methodologies and theories are being continually re-examined and  tested.  This is great news for the true scientist searching for truth and ideologies that can stand the test of time.

To many, it may even seem illogical to disregard principles found in the Bible when seeking that which stands the test of time.  The Bible has stood the test of time for thousands of years.  It continues to top the best seller lists, thousands of years later.  Now that's certainly more than any theorist or theory of secular origin can claim.  With that being noted, it seems quite logical, and perhaps even necessary, to further investigate the interface between psychology and the Bible.  Perhaps there really is something to be learned.

However, ultimately, it is our sincere desire to bridge the gap between these two sides and bring about greater harmony that yields healing for suffering individuals and families.  Likewise, we also intend to explore practical truths and new ideas to facilitate scientifically valid advances in the field of psychology and counseling.   We look forward to the journey!
